Luke Tarpey is a visual artist based in Castle Donington, UK, where he currently manages a Commercial Fine Art Gallery – www.tarpeygallery.com. He graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2002 with a honours degree in Fine Art. Although he has made work most of his life, he has spent the last twelve years focusing on representing artists at Tarpey Gallery. He is now in the early stages of launching his own art career, with a focus on collage and both traditional and digital photography.
All collages are hand cut one-off original pieces. If you would like a print of any of the pieces on the website please get in touch. They will be printed the same size as the original collage on Hahnemühle Photorag by The Print Space in London.
Original collages will be sent via courier. I will aim to deliver within 7 working days. Prints will take longer to organise. 1 – 2 weeks.
All of the work can also be viewed in person and bought at my gallery in Castle Donington – www.tarpeygallery.com
The work began as a way to reflect on the effects the lockdowns of 2020 – 2021 had on us all. Being isolated in our own homes brought unique challenges for our mental health and i took to making my own lockdown houses as a form of therapy.
The project has evolved beyond the lockdowns and is ultimately about imagination; creating a world to escape into, letting go of pre-conceived ideas and living in fantastical places where anything is possible. Constructing narratives and structures that speak to a need to protect oneself from the inner and outer world’s we inhabit. The work can be both serious and playful but will always be a celebration of the transportive power of art as therapy.
The source material is made up of found photographs. I want the work to reflect a global shared experience, so using imagery from all across the world is an important part.
I’m very happy to receive any enquiries for sales of artwork, any exhibition opportunities or gallery representation.
