    About Me

Luke Tarpey is a visual artist based in Castle Donington, UK, where he currently manages a Commercial Fine Art Gallery – He graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2002 with a honours degree in Fine Art. Although he has made work most of his life, he has spent the last twelve years focusing on representing artists at Tarpey Gallery. He is now in the early stages of launching his own art career, with a focus on analogue collage.

    Buying the work

All collages are hand cut one-off original pieces. If you would like an original you can buy available pieces via the shop originals page. A selection of Prints from the original collages are available on the shop prints page. They will be printed the same size as the original collage on Archival Photorag.

You can also view and buy my work at my gallery in Castle Donington –

Original collages will be sent via courier. I will aim to deliver within 7 working days. Prints will take longer to organise if they are out of stock. 1 – 2 weeks.

    Artist Statement

The work is ultimately about imagination; creating a world to escape into, letting go of pre-conceived ideas and living in fantastical places where anything is possible. Constructing narratives and structures that celebrate our individuality and sense of place. The work can be both serious and playful but will always honour the transportive power of art as therapy.

My process starts by playing around with shapes and photographs until I find a starting point where I feel a structure has begun to appear. These structures are as much portraits as they are buildings so giving them a personality is vitally important – naturally friends, family and daily life play a huge role in helping to shape the anthropomorphic elements in my work. The work evolves slowly over a period of weeks or months with each change in the composition bringing new challenges in terms of balance, meaning and personality. I never really set out with an end goal in sight and let the structure evolve naturally which helps give each piece its own unique feel.
